Koya Nyangi: Maggie it’s such a pleasure talking to you. I have watched your collections coming down the runway and every single time you have blown my mind away with your beautiful creations. You are truly the essence of elegance. I am therefore curious to know what made you want to become a bridal designer.

Maggie Burns: I’ve always loved creating beautiful clothing. To me, a wedding is the most special day of a woman’s life, so to wear a piece of art created especially for her is vital to making the day live out the dream.   I love that each bridal gown is different.

KN: It’s amazing how you understand how a woman wants to look and feel on her big day. What are the signature elements that make a gown a Marie Margot Couture gown?

MB: Designing the gown to fit the bride’s personality, lifestyle and sense of fashion is probably the most important element in a Marie Margot Couture gown.  We start with a design consultation where we incorporate various ideas of what the bride likes in other gowns and what she’s always dreamed of wearing on her wedding day.  With an almost unlimited variety of fabrics and laces, we can then refine all the elements into a final design.  The bride ends up with the gown of her dreams.

KN: With so many bridal trends and so many inspirations as well as influences that brides have to choose from, what does the 2022 bride look like to you?

MB: The 2022 bride is truly an independent woman who knows what she likes.  In my opinion, the pandemic has given us a sense of freedom to truly express who we are and live life our way, not necessarily as it was done in the past.  I’m seeing more “nude” dressing with see-through lace/tulle, jumpsuits, removable skirts, color, and bling than in the past.  And who doesn’t love the Angelina Jolie slit?

KN: What would you say is your favorite dress type and why?

MB: My personal favorite is the simple, elegant gown that exudes confidence and grace.  These gowns put the emphasis on the bride’s beauty and style rather than emphasizing the gown details that can detract.

KN: What are your favorite fabrics to choose from?

MB: Of course, I love working with the finest quality of silks and laces.  They make the gowns extraordinary in the way they move and how the light hits the details.

KN: You have had the privilege of dressing so many brides What are the few tips you offer to a bride to be when choosing her wedding gown?

MB: When you look back on your pictures with your grandchildren, how do you want to remember that day?  Do you want to look classic and timeless or trendy?  Really think about how you want to look given your figure type, your lifestyle, the venue, the time of day, and of course your budget.  Your entourage is there to support you, not to dictate to you.  This is your day, choose the best gown that makes you feel the most beautiful for the most important day of your life!
