I’ve been teaching/training for over 30 years. I trained in NYC as one of the original Equinox trainers and contributor to their teacher training program. I’ve taught and trained multiple celebrities and athletes over the years and created a pre/postnatal training program (one of my specialties). After moving to Denver, I started Hot Mamas Stroller Conditioning in 2003 and eventually opened my first studio in Washington Park (with childcare). It was the first boutique fitness studio in Denver that included group fitness and personal training (there have always been personal training gyms, but I was the first to do group exercise in a boutique setting, not a big gym) and with childcare!

My specialty is women’s bodies of all ages. Keeping them feminine, and using mostly body weight. The common mistakes women make are too much weight, too many squats (they bulk the thighs) and exercising at too high of an intensity. After 40, keeping the heart rate at a steady-state but at only about 60% of the maximum is optimal.  Women need to train for their age - too often we think we should do what we did when we were 20 - and that simply doesn’t work. Our hormone levels change as we age, and we have to adjust our exercise to accommodate for that. High-intensity exercise is such a fad right now, and it really doesn’t work for older women because it creates the fight or flight chemical in our body which causes you to bloat and retain water.

Diet of course is essential and I firmly believe that keeping gluten, sugar and dairy at a minimum is the best way to stay lean. Red meat only once or twice month and of course tequila or mezcal, and super dark chocolate. This is my diet and it works every time. As soon as I fall off the wagon and eat pasta or loads of peanut brittle, when I go back to the regime, I see results immediately.

My studio and boutique are in a historic building on Colfax and I do a very successful bikini Bootcamp (100% effective so far - women are losing inches), group classes, personal training, various workshops and fabulous retreats in Mexico and Steamboat. My instructors are hand-picked and trained by me. They are all incredibly smart, talented women with years of experience and I require that they are all certified. I also just started having yoga and my first male instructor, Billy Potochnik (he has an incredible following as well).

When I started my business 17 years ago, I had no idea the friendships that would be formed, the connections made, the second home for these women. The bonds, the trust, a place where they feel safe and supported, challenged and inspired. It’s really why I do what I do and the reason I wake up every day.
