TUXEDO VS SUIT

Here comes the big question - should the groom wear a tuxedo or a suit on the wedding day? Tuxedos are reserved for formal occasions. They set the tone of the entire ceremony and reflect a sophisticated outlook. Accessories need to be chosen carefully to complete the black-tie outfit. Suits are more versatile. They can also be worn at more casual events without lingering in your closet. If you prefer the latter, we will help you choose the suit appropriate for the season and the occasion.

The wedding is a great occasion to channel your inner 007 with a black tie look and buy, perhaps, the first tuxedo in your life. If you are a regular attendant of glamorous galas, it will definitely find use after the wedding. But even if it's not the case, you will hardly ever regret your choice. The tuxedo makes one look timelessly stylish and elegant. So it is worth giving it a shot, especially if you are planning to host your wedding banquet at an exquisite restaurant or a posh hotel. But remember that black tie events are all about following the rules that do not tolerate liberties.

COMFORT IN ANY WEATHER

Before you start wedding suit shopping, you need to decide on the date of the wedding. And the choice of the festive wardrobe should be guided by the weather forecast for that day.

Some great options for Spring/Summer include the following:

  • Wool: Wool remains the most popular fabric choice for suits. It has great wrinkle resistance and breathes well. A wool suit will keep you cool even on the hottest day. This is because the material is woven so that the air between the fibers absorbs moisture and helps it evaporate faster.

  • Wool & Silk: 65% Wool & 35% Silk fabric is a perfect solution for summer. It is light and comfortable to wear even in the wedding rush and in the scorching sun.

  • Linen & Cotton: Suitable for those who don’t not really mind if the suit loses its shape. Even slightly crumpled, the suit will not look awkward in a casual setting like a summer wedding in the countryside.

Fall/Winter options include the following:

  • Wool: Wool is suitable for winter as well as for summer. The only difference is in the density of the fabric. Choose a heavier cloth from 270 to 350 g. In winter, wool perfectly retains heat and evaporates moisture. Therefore, it is second to none when it is cold outside and not too hot indoors.

  • Tweed: Due to its palpable texture, tweed calls for a special wedding atmosphere, which makes it a great choice for a country wedding or a 1980s themed wedding.

Options for any season include:

  • Wool with Mohair: With a density of 260-270 g, it is a universal solution for any season, especially if most of the wedding is planned indoors. Mohair adds resilience to wool and does not allow it to wrinkle. If you have to spend a lot of time sitting in a restaurant or car, this is a great choice.

  • Velvet: Velvet is suitable for black-tie celebrations regardless of the season. The jacket made of velvet looks elegant, if not dapper, hardly ever loses its impeccable appearance by the end of the party, and keeps you warm in fall and spring. For a winter wedding, the jacket can be supplemented with a velvet vest.

THE SUIT LINING

Pay attention to what the lining of the suit is made of. Bemberg and viscose has excellent properties in absorbing and releasing moisture, which enhances comfort. To emphasize your personality, we offer a large collection of linings. Select from a variety of printed and plain fabrics. The interior of the suit is as important as its exterior.

CLASSIC OR CASUAL

The main task when it comes to picking your wedding attire is to look appropriate for the season, the venue and the theme of the wedding.

Classic: Strict classics is the most common and timeless wedding trend. A classic suit looks great on everyone, provided that you choose the correct fit and color. If you are planning a wedding in town, whether it is a restaurant or a loft style wedding venue, then a classic suit is the best choice.

Casual: The trend of the last decade is to have a country style wedding in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by your closest friends and family. While a classic suit would look completely out-of-place, you could opt for Casual, that allows you to combine textured bright jackets with cotton trousers, lightweight linen or wool suits with t-shirts and sneakers. We have just one tip for you: leave jeans for everyday life, wedding casual should still be different from going to the movies.

THE COLOR SCHEME

The traditional color scheme for a man’s wedding suit is black, blue, gray or beige. While black is always appropriate, you should be more careful with the shades of blue. Icon Suit experts recommend avoiding bright blues, for they can dominate the wedding photos, look flashy or attract too much attention. Summer celebrations favor light color schemes, while winter weddings require classic dark ones. But you can always deviate from the rules if you want to go from classic to casual or decided to organize a themed wedding.

The jacket and trousers may not match in color. But so that they do not look like parts of different suits, a couple of rules must be observed. Neutral trousers go well with a jacket that is catchy in terms of the fabric, a bright shade or print (but not all of this together).
