Cherry Creek Fashion: How far out should brides + grooms step up their skin care routine to prepare for the big day?

Kathryn Murray Dickinson: Optimally, 6 months, but at the very least 3 months. It takes your skin anywhere from 28-45 days to regenerate in your 30’s (less if you are younger, longer if you are older).  You will need time to a.) find the products that work best for your skin and b.) give it time to effectively work with your skin through at least one cycle.

CCF: Should brides + grooms try new products and/or skincare services close to their actual wedding day?

KMD: NO NO NO. And take this from someone who knows. I was opening AILLEA when I was also planning my wedding and was constantly trying new products for the store. I had a reaction to an ingredient and broke out in hives all over my face 10 days before my wedding. I was able to get it under control but still think my face looks puffy in pictures. For the last 1-2 months before your wedding, you do not want to be putting anything new on your face as you don’t want to have an adverse reaction.

CCF: What products do you recommend for anyone planning their wedding with stressed out skin?

KMD: Detoxifying, regenerating and calming products will help a ton. A great clay mask like Kypris Deep Forest Clay is always one of my favorites for detoxifying without drying you out.  A great natural retinol alternative like the bakuchiol in Alpyn Melt Moisturizer is fantastic at clarifying and hydrating. And a really calming face oil like Beuti Beauty Sleep Elixir is essential, this one is chock full of anti-inflammatory ingredients. We offer one-on-one consultations in all of our stores so people can receive individual attention.

CCF: For destination weddings here in Colorado, are there hydrating products that AILLEA offers that could help the bride, groom, and wedding party acclimate to the dry Colorado climate?

KMD: A hydrating mist like Josh Rosebrook Hydrating Accelerator is perfect to keep tucked in a purse or pocket for a spritz throughout the day. For more serious hydration needs, the Indie Lee Squalane Oil is always a great product. It is only 1 ingredient that is almost bio-identical to the squalane we naturally produce, so I have never had anyone react to it.

CCF: Can AILLEA help to curate a skincare routine for any bride or groom, regardless of skin type? Absolutely!

KMD: Education is a big factor at AILLEA and all of our team is really well versed on which products work best for different skin types and can really help dial in a regimen that is perfectly suited for each bride.
