TIP 1

Trust your instinct. Oftentimes finding your dress comes down to a feeling rather than a look. How do you feel in the dress? How it looks will vary vastly depending on the lighting, the fit of the sample (which is usually far from perfect and could be several sizes too big or too small on you), and so many different factors. But how you feel in the dress – and is it how you want to feel when you marry your person? – is the most important indicator of whether it’s just a pretty dress or THE dress for you.

TIP 2

Trust the experts. Your stylist has seen every gown in-store on a variety of shapes, sizes, personalities, and styles. She is truly an expert in helping you consider styles you may not have thought of, in helping you visualize how the fit will be when the gown is altered to your body, and in customizing details or accessories to complete your look. Go into your appointment with an open mind and with trust for the person who will be guiding you through the process.

TIP 3

Shop early. With worldwide shipping delays, fabrics on backorder, staffing shortages in the design and production houses, incredibly busy seamstresses, and a huge amount of weddings happening in the next year, it’s a good idea to choose your wedding dress as early as possible before the wedding to ensure as little stress as possible and plenty of time for alterations.

TIP 4

Be prepared to be decisive. We see indecision paralyze some brides and it can turn wedding dress shopping into a less than enjoyable journey. There will always be other dresses out there that you will look incredible in, but when you find one that you love and that you feel good in and fits your vision for your wedding, it’s time to celebrate because you have found your wedding dress!

TIP 5

Bring a select, small group whose opinions you value the most. Find your most supportive people whose opinions matter to deciding on your dress, and don’t feel pressured to include a large group of people when shopping for your dress. Lots of opinions can cause confusion and frustration for the bride. If you’re looking to include others in the process, bringing them to a fitting or to an accessories appointment after the dress has been selected are great ways for more friends and family to join in on the fun when the stakes aren’t as high as choosing the dress.
